Welcome to my home on the internet

I live in New York City and I play, write, arrange, and produce music for myself and lots of other people. I spend quite a bit of time in Austin, Texas, and travel around the country with various groups. I've contributed performances, compositions, and arrangements to recordings by bands like Snarky Puppy, Okkervil River, Bill Laurance, Nelo, and many more. My band is Progger.

Late spring update

This spring has presented me with a pretty staggering array of opportunities, challenges, profound learning experiences, and some really, really awesome experiences. I'm creeping up on another birthday  and I'm constantly amazed at how much I continue to learn every single year: the human brain is amazing, but it can't possibly even begin to soak up all the knowledge in this beautiful, massive universe in one short little human lifetime. That's as scary as it is cool.

Of course, my priorities are focused on the creative side of life. So that's what I'm going to focus on for this update! (As usual.)

Progress has been working out some new tunes by mr. Muehling and myself, and we're pretty excited about them. The identity of the band continues to strengthen, and these new compositions-- together with the way this group of musicians plays them-- is starting to resemble a very distinctive force. That's all I've ever wanted in a band, so I couldn't be happier. I love my Progress bros.

And we have a really exciting summer lined up, as well. In addition to making a couple more videos (courtesy of Yellow Dog Video), we'll be sharing every Thursday in June with Hard Proof Afrobeat at One2One. Hard Proof has received a ton of good press and critical acclaim recently, and they absolutely deserve every bit of it and more. We'll see if we can't get some of that on video, as well. June is going to be a great month.

Although their visit was too brief, it was great to see and play with my Snarky Puppy brothers during their Austin and Dallas shows. They're truly one of the best bands on earth, and they're changing things day by day. More power to them.
